Jonathan Fields: How To Get Good At Anything 02/07/23
The five steps necessary to accomplish a certain level of proficiency in practically anything:
- Decide what you want - What's your target performance level.
- Deconstruct the skill - Separate it into smaller sub-skills, practice the most important ones first.
- Research the skill just enough to do the deconstruction and choose the most important sub-skills but not so much that it becomes a barrier to practice in itself.
- Eliminate barriers to practice - Make it easier to do what you want to do by minimizing distractions and making sure it is easy to pick it up in the shortest amount of time. Pre-commit to practicing whatever it is you want to be able to do for at least twenty hours (that's 40 minutes a day for a month).
